The Hayseed Knight

The Hayseed Knight is an indie visual novel created by a single person that follows the adventures of Ader, the one eyed deer, while he desperately tries to stay on track to fulfill his dream: becoming a knight. On a meta sense, the player is The Narrator, a character hellbent on finding out what truly happened to Ader and his friends, who are little more than legendary characters at this point.

The Hayseed Knight follows the story of Ader, a one-eyed farmboy with seemingly impossible dreams, who somehow becomes the most celebrated knight the kingdom of Acazhor has ever known, as told by our two narrators: an old friend of Ader, who could no longer stand-by and let history misremember him, and Lin, a self-proclaimed descendant of the Knight that sees the whole story as little more than a steamy fanfiction. Drawing from Spanish XVIth century “picaresque novel”, the story plays as a satire on knightly and courtly tropes, with a twist— the heroic protagonist is exchanged for a go-getter that lies his way into legends, never telling a whole truth. The story switches POVs every chapter, focusing on the misadventures of Ader’s friends as they deal with their own quests and worries.
