Three Phases of Affect

Pogranichnoye is a closed village founded after the war as an experimental sanatorium for mental health recovery. To those who live there, it is a utopia where everyone can leave the past behind and start a new life. ​​On June 1, 1962, the village celebrates its anniversary. On this day, Elisaveta Stein, the founder’s daughter and her future successor, is supposed to give a ceremonial speech. But instead of speaking of a bright future, she does something that shatters the illusion of a perfect world. ​​After that, Lisa inexplicably stops being herself — her identity seems to be erased. Now she cannot explain her act​, even to herself. ​​Her sister, Alisa, refuses to accept that Lisa is gone. To understand what happened, she must enter the minds of those who knew her and explore their inner worlds, searching for a way to bring her back. ​​But the more Alisa searches for answers, the more she begins to question what she thought she knew about identity, freedom, and the human self.
